The Confessed Opera of Bets, Side Dishes & Deaths

Life can change at the flash of a second. At times we do things just to meet our immediate needs not knowing how they can change our lives. I have been there, my friends been there. You have probably been there. Instead of thinking with our heads, we get caught up by the middle parts of our bodies, leading to situations…..

The Bet Situation

Many years ago in our neighborhood, there were these two amazingly hot chix. My buddy P (we each other’s right hand, tight palz from boy hood) and I bet that one day, we’d score with the hot chix even if it took a lifetime. If I scored first with ‘A’, P would pursue ‘B’ and vice versa. Whoever scored first would inform the other and give him two months time. The late party would finance a weekend to Malindi if he didnt meet the deadline. At the time of the vow, we were in college and the chix were still in high skul. The chix cleared school and went to different universities. P and I moved to different neighborhoods but still kept intouch with the chix. A certain Friday afternoon in March this year, I called ‘B’. Come Saturday morning, I called P, told him why I was not going to work for the weekend and he had a holiday to pay for in two months time. The following weekend, P called me for a sleep over on Saturday. ‘A’  was there when I arrived and they were very very cosy. I had lost a free Malindi weekend. I had not underestimated him, I just didnt expect the bun in the oven to be ready that quick! P and I had a private toast and smiled at the ’sun set’. The four man crew had ‘all in together now’ weekend at the this place that lies between two grandeur water falls.

The P Situation

The bliss of clandestine weekends however was not to last. See, P was in a serious relationship characterised by a  serious ‘starvation‘. Besides the years old bet, the ‘insatiable hunger‘ he was subjected to led to this affair. As a matter of fact, HE HAD THE RIGHT TO SUE! Thats how serious the relationship was! Now it was under threat because P and ‘A’ had started to fall for each other. To stress the threats, the ‘red zone’ for ‘A’ didnt come this time round. P was elated. He was ready to face ‘Judge Mablean‘ and move on with ‘A’ So he sat down with his significant other confessed he had been fooling around and explained the reasons why and he wanted to finish what they had, to get on with the new. I guess women are smart, it never happened. How she managed to box P into believing what she told him and that he would get all he wanted in a matter of hours is beyond me. That left ‘A’ crying, feeling stupid, lost hope for the future, imagining she was to drop out after two years to handle this first. P wanted it carried to full term and his significant other was ready to adopt the baby. ‘A’ was ready to carry it to full term if P was ready to settle with her. Before P could make a tangible decision on whom to settle with, ‘A’ had had enough and terminated a life…

The Gream Situation

‘B’ was supposed to be a fulfillment of a now stupid bet. She was hitched and what happened was a side dish like it was with P and ‘A’. At the time, I had something else to pursue. This is what I wanted and the response was overwhelmingly good. Not to the point of consummation, but it was to get there in due course. But before it became official, complications came up. See, she had a guy and he was to be dumped for a new beginning. As I had said earlier, women are knavish when it comes to handling affairs. But rarely do we have the cakes and eat them. I got to know she too was developing an offspring and in a matter of days after I had got wind of it and before I could ask questions, a little life was cut short…

The Cole Situation

Cole is a childhood and still very close buddy just like P.  Cole is smooth. He has ways with women. But I guess all things come to an end right? He had or rather he has Jane & Juliet. Juliet is the sort that you settle with for a life time. Jane is fine and has always clicked the right buttons for Cole. Juliet used to go over to Cole’s during the day over the weekends. They would do all chores together leaving the place sparkling. But like P, Cole was faced with ’starvation’ because she never spent the nights over there no matter what. She would not hear any of it. They had to make it official before anything happened. On the other hand, Jane came over during the night and Cole was having a good time. Jane knew of Juliet and desperately wanted a take over ‘life time settlement’. Did I say it? That women are guile in these things? In an attempt to win the battle, Jane missed her red zone, and in the most intentional way. It got to 5 months and she now wanted to move in forcibly. But Cole all along never intend it to be like that. Juliet was the future, the one to take down the isle. Jane was however not going to be a push over. Somehow someway she contacted Juliet, they met in a restaurant, just the two. The next meeting, Cole was invited by Juliet like it was a usual coffee thing. He got there and was dumb struck. His defense, however rickety convinced Juliet that Jane just wanted to break them up and in no way was he responsible for the pregnancy. Jane heart broken, enraged, and seeing a bleak future that she hadn’t dreamt of went ahead and terminated it. Another life lost….

Karma Situation?

Cole’s sister knew of every detail of the affairs. She was very close to Jane, they were tight buddies and as a matter of fact, workmates. But she always wanted Juliet for a sister in law. But as fate would have it, she too got played. She believed in settling with her guy but it never came to be as the guy disappeared once she got knocked up. Despite the possibility of raising a child without a father as a result of the denial, she decided to carry it to full term. Over the weekend, the last one of Sep, she had a preterm birth. Seven months, a baby girl, she had to be put in life support.

The Nighmares, the daymares Situation

The three abortions happened in a space of two weeks. Despite me not being directly responsible or involved, death had never affected me like this before. I have seen very very very close people pass away but these ones had me dreaming nasty stuff. A particular one was where the devil was turning me like roast meat in a fire with a garden fork poked to my hide set. I feared falling asleep even during the day so I could not look in the eye of the devil. Do I watch too many movies? Don’t think so. My heart just bleeds for these young ones. My heart bleeds for the women who have been down this road. We’d rather be starved than be in gory situations. Yall, keep ya pant up if you aint ready. I pray to God that He forgive us.

Moving on

On Saturday after leaving the hospital, we flashed feeble smiles, smiles of pain and guilt, and toasted to a new dawn with a resolve to atone. A call came through on Cole’s phone. It was his sister. His face turned pale. “Oooh not again!” The little one had give-uped the ghost…
